Teach a girl to code and she will fix the gender gap (in tech)
If tech is the future and women are in tech, then women will have an equal chance to shape the future. Equipping and empowering girls to shape their world with technology is a key step we can take for a gender equal future. Girls in technology can and will create new products and new markets that would otherwise go undiscovered and will solve problems our technologies currently fail to address. In her talk, beyond the problem her company, imagiLabs addresses Dora will also introduce how through their solution can make programming fun and relevant for beginners. In addition, Dora will provide insights into how she took the leap from Masters student to founder, and the most important milestones her and her team have achieved to drive their startup forward – from securing their first investment to attending incubators ran by companies such as Apple and Google.
True to her name Dora (as the explorer) has lived, studied and volunteered in 10 countries across 4 continents over the past 7 years. She has a BSc in Neuroscience with a minor in Computer Science from New York University Abu Dhabi and moved to Sweden for her MSc studies in Human Computer Interaction at KTH. She began working on imagiLabs, her company as part of a course during the EIT Digital Master School and two years ago after receiving a grant from Start-Up Chile turned the project into a startup.
Along with working to bring technology closer to girls, Dora also works as a yoga teacher – bringing mindfulness closer to engineers. imagiLabs is blending community, software and hardware together to get teenage girls to take their first and many next steps into the world of technology and the company had the past year been supported by the Apple Entrepreneur Bootcamp, Google for Startups and Sting, the leading start-up accelerator in the Nordics.
